Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the cause of poor pollen germination in the pistil of jujube (Zizyphus jujuba Mill.). It was observed that only a few pollen grains were germinated on the open pollinated stigmas and the fewer pollen tubes were penetrating along the conductive tissue in the style. The stigma observed under scanning electron microscope belonged to a dry type making the pollen grains difficult to adhere and germinate on it. The conductive tissue in the style belonged to a hollow type, in which the penetration of pollen tube is very slow.
